An Idiot's Guide to Hempy

When I transplanted the 2 week old plants, they were in soil before. When I transplanted them I had a bucket of water and I dipped the roots in it to remove excess dirt. A few of the plants have started to droop, is that due to over watering.

The plants are in 3. Feeding every time. Any advice would be awesome, I read up on it for weeks before deciding to do this, I have 14 plants going. Hydro growers… to ur positions lol. Coco coir correct? I can never get my mediums in order. One day…. Not sure how well the perilite will hold nutrients since you add it for drainage normally It does have it own micro nutrients in it all perlite does.

Ill say this im intrigued bybthis and will be watching this thread to see your progress Okietokie. Removing all the dirt from the roots will definitely result in some kind of shock, not sure how much Superthrive will mitigate that.

You probably should use water only until the plants show signs of recovery. Keep posting about the progress of this grow. Good luck with any method you choose. Thanks guys, after reading some more and from some of your answers I am going to stop all watering till the bucket is light in weight. Most of the plants were perked up this morning too. I will post pics when they start growing.

You may want to allow some recovery time from your plant, as that may be the problem. But frequent watering, with a well established plant in hempy is common. Okietokie September 12, , am 1. By Jipo , April 30, in Tutorials. I generally nix the Vermiculite as I notice it slows the rate at which the roots hit the bottom of the bucket due to the wick effect, but it makes things a little less high maintanence for the first week or two while waiting for the roots to make contact. Once you have your seedling sprouted fill the bucket with plain water every day until the tap root has reached the standing water that always remains in the bottom of the bucket. If you use clones, plant the stem in the middle of the bucket as it will shorten time for roots to hit the bottom, however you loose space for the root ball by lowering the stem, if your in rockwool or anything like that what I like to do is bury the rockwool about 1" from the top of the perlite so it has a little support on the stem but allows the most space for the root mass, upon harvest you will be amazed with the size of the root mass!

Guide to Hempy Buckets

This style of growing is a huge hit in the US and Canada. Hempy buckets are a great option for growers looking to cultivate big plants, they are also cheap to make and easy to maintain. Water from above until you see run-off coming out of the hole on the side of the bucket. The base of the bucket is now a reservoir, effectively mimicking the water table that a plant feeds from when naturally growing outdoors. Once the roots reach the reservoir, the growth is phenomenal! The hempy bucket offers the constant supply of nutrient, water and oxygen that leads to rapid growth and massive buds. When the roots hit that reservoir at the bottom of the bucket your plant will fly! In which case, simply use a smaller bucket like a 5L or 10L. Alternatively, if you like the idea of very big plants, you could even give a 25L or 30L bucket a go.

Hempy Buckets

In this chapter we build a passive hydroponics setup with an automatic irrigation system. A Hempy bucket is a simple non-transparent bucket with a hole in its side, filled with perlite and coconut coir soil mix. We are essentially tricking our plant into thinking it found a natural water pocket at the bottom of the Hempy bucket. Watering is scheduled using a digital timer that controls a submersible pump inside the reservoir. To ensure proper drainage the Hempy bucket must be elevated above the waste water container. The best thing about a Hempy bucket is its simplicity, you only need a bucket, a barrel connector, a strain to keep the perlite from flowing out the drain hole and rubber tubing to route the waste water into a second collection bucket. There are two more non-transparent containers in the system: a reservoir containing the fresh PH adjusted nutrient mix and a waste bucket storing the runoff.
